PROJECT RESET 
AMERICORPS PROGRAM

The Project Reset AmeriCorps Program allows AmeriCorps Members to provide service to individuals & families struggling with Mental Health, Substance Use, Life Skills, & Academic Obstacles to overcome barriers and barriers to care to decrease drop out rates and increase positive change for families across the state of Arizona. The organization's community partner Rest Recovery will work with Project Reset and AmeriCorps Members in order to successfully provide education-focused small group instructional support, one- on-one tutoring, mentoring, life-skills and opportunities for learning and enhancing connectedness.

Recent data highlights the alarming distress many U.S. high school students are experiencing showing that 4 in 10 (42%) of students felt persistently sad or hopeless, and nearly one-third (29%) experienced poor mental health. 1 in 5 (22%) students seriously considered attempting suicide, and 1 in 10 (10%) attempted suicide (CDC YRBS).
WHY AMERICORPS?

1. National service helps young people develop into leaders, problem solvers and more active citizens.

2. Nine out of Ten AmeriCorps alumni reported that their service experience improved their ability to solve problems.

3. Eight out of Ten alumni say that if they were confronted with a community issue, they could confidently develop a plan to address it and get others to care.

57.8% of Arizona Adolescents aged 12–17 who have depression did not receive any care in the last year—poor mental health impacts adolescent well-being; and, youth with poor mental health often struggle with grades, decision- making, and overall wellbeing. Additionally, High school students with depression are more than two times more likely to drop out than their peers.

WHY DO AMERICORPS PROGRAMS EXIST?

AmeriCorps enables more than 75,000 AmeriCorps members to serve with nonprofit organizations in more than 21,000 locations across the United States. Through participation in AmeriCorps, City Year’s full-time AmeriCorps members earn a taxable living allowance as well as health care benefits. City Year AmeriCorps members who complete a year of service receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that can be used to pay for tuition or to pay off qualified student loans.

 

The Corporation for National & Community Service is the nation’s largest grantmaker investing in locally driven service and volunteering efforts. The agency focuses on several high-priority areas including education, healthy futures and economic opportunity.​​
